On the 9th November 2013 the Project Coordinator Katharina Kuss from TERRE DES FEMMES visited one of the CHANGE Agents trainings in Amsterdam. The training was hosted and organized by the dutch project partner FSAN and was facilitated by Marthine Bos, who is a medical anthropologist and is specialized in intercultural communications.
It was the third training in Amsterdam for 14 dutch women and men, originally from Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia and Somalia. After being trained they will advocate for abandonment of FGM and will carry out activities to promote behaviour change within their FGM-practicing communities in The Netherlands.
The focus of this training was on Communication Skills and How to talk about FGM.
The facilitator Marthine Bos illustrated e.g. on a model of the female abdomen the various kinds of Female Genital Mutilation and their severe health and reproductive consequences.
Terre des Femmes was pleased to see that the training was so keenly participated and had such a big turnout. The project is taking a huge step forward to reach its goal of combating FGM.
